The life path and creative activity of the famous criminologist, professor, one of the pioneers of the
formation and development of Ukrainian criminology, Mykola Prokopovich Makarenko (1874–1945), who will
celebrate his 150th birthday in 2024, are highlighted. He was the first director of the Odesa Institute of Forensic Science
(now the Odesa Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Science of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine), holding this
