This article defines the essence of human psychophysiological study with the use of a polygraph in criminal proceedings and the possibility of using its results in evidence. The author focuses on the procedural form of such research, its main tasks, subjects and conditions of conduction, elements of its preparation and results evaluation. The approaches to the use of a polygraph are concretized and analyzed, as well as recommendations on its application in criminal proceedings are formulated. The experience of other countries in this direction is generalized. The author also outlines the problems related to the legal and regulatory framework of using the polygraph , the methodology for conducting research, the training of experts of the proper area of expertise, the evaluation and use of the results of expert research in evidence.
