COUNTERFEITING IN INDEPENDENT UKRAINE: HISTORICAL ASPECT

Abstract

This article focuses mainly on the historical aspect of money counterfeiting
problem in modern Ukraine without going into the details of conducting
a pre-trial investigation of criminal offenses related to money counterfeiting,
forensic examination or expert research of counterfeit money or means
of countering the counterfeiting. In the context of strengthening the
economic sovereignty of Ukraine and introducing the national currency into
circulation (the period 1994–2000), the main trends of counterfeiting money,
as well as some directions of combating the counterfeiting, are characterized.
Methodology. The methodological basis is based on general scientific (analytical,
synthetic, logical, retrospective, mathematical, illustrative), historical
(historical-comparative, chronological, synchronistic, diachronic, typological)
and source studying (critical, heuristic, metrological, archeographic, iconographic,
paleographic) methods of scientific knowledge. Scientific novelty. The trends
of money counterfeiting in independent Ukraine in the period 1994–2000.
Results. The main trends in money counterfeiting in Ukraine are analyzed,
focusing on the formation of the national monetary unit and the use of
foreign currency. The structure of money counterfeiting before and after
the monetary reform of 1996 is analyzed and compared. Identified and
analyzed the fantasy redemption stamps of fake banknotes that appeared
on the collectors' market and were manufactured to mislead connoisseurs
of antiquities.
