The purpose of the article is to scientifically substantiate and formation of the nomenclature and content of
the commodity characteristics of the most common in the practice of forensic commodity examination of types
of furniture for the New Ukrainian school. Methodology. The reliability of the obtained results and conclusions of
this theoretical study is ensured by the use of a complex of general scientific (analysis and synthesis, induction and
deduction, analogy and modeling, abstraction and concretization, system analysis) and special methods of cognition
(thought experiment, idealization, formalization, generalization, convergence). Scientific novelty. For the first time in
domestic forensic commodity examination: a scientifically based and formed list of commodity characteristics of the
most common types of furniture in the practice of forensic commodity examination for New Ukrainian school and the
numerical values of indicators of consumption properties of this furniture, which can be determined organoleptically;
an example of the characterization of the consumer properties of furniture for New Ukrainian school by a forensic
product expert is given, which will contribute to ensuring the maximum possible degree of completeness of expert
research and solving the actual scientific and practical task of establishing the compliance of furniture for New
Ukrainian school actually available in educational institutions with the current standardized requirements for these
furniture production products. Conclusions. The results of scientific research and the generalization of the practical
experience of the Lviv Scientific Research Forensic Center proved that the solution of the actual scientific-theoretical
and practical problem of commodity research of furniture for New Ukrainian school by forensic experts is facilitated
by a scientifically based list and numerical values of the types most common in the practice of forensic commodity
expertise furniture for New Ukrainian school. At the same time, it is proposed to carry out the identification of
furniture as an object of research in the merchandising examination and the assignment of this object to classification
categories using the key principles of theoretical merchandising, according to which: product identification is carried
out at the level of the basic merchandising category – the type of product, and the assignment to classification
categories – on the basis of the main features of the commodity classification of furniture. It has been proven that
the most rational way and the most perfect source of substantiation of the nomenclature (list) and numerical values
of indicators of consumer properties of furniture for New Ukrainian school is to consider the international and
national standards in force in Ukraine for separate groups of furniture. It is shown that the fundamental feature of
establishing the compliance of the researched furniture for New Ukrainian school with the requirements of current
state standards is that a forensic goods expert can carry out the specified research exclusively only according to the
indicators (parameters) of the main groups of consumer properties (functional, ergonomic, safety of use) entered into
these normative documents, which can be established by standardized organoleptic and measuring research methods.
The nomenclature and requirements of the current legal and regulatory documents for the numerical values of the
indicators of consumer properties of furniture for New Ukrainian school are separated: type, variant and growth
group of the furniture product; labeling; functional dimensions (height, width and length of the working surface of the
table and chair seat; height, width and depth of the space for the legs; horizontality of the table cover and the device
for installing it horizontally and at an angle; height of the table niche; height of the lower edge of the backrest above
the chair seat; angle the tilt of the seat and back of the chair), requirements for ergonomics and reliability (treatment
of the corners of the tabletop and chair; shape, color and gloss of the working surface of the table; availability of
devices to prevent damage and soiling of the floor; presence of an antiscoliosis cutout in the tabletop and the back
wall of the table; cross-section of the frame material). Sources of information are offered that allow New Ukrainian
school to obtain scientifically based data on the main consumer properties of the objects of study, which determine
the compliance of these goods with the current standards and conditions of the tender documentation, during the
forensic examination of furniture for New Ukrainian school and it is proven that in this way methodical, legal and
practical issues of forensic expertise are deepened, which contribute to the development of the information base of
forensic expertise, as they organically combine the special knowledge of the forensic expert (in the form of the results
of organoleptic research of the provided research objects), on the one hand , and the requirements of state standards
of Ukraine, commodity literature and materials provided by the initiator – on the other hand. With the use of such
an approach, an example of the characterization of consumer properties of furniture for New Ukrainian school by a
forensic product expert is presented.
