USE OF HUMOR IN ESTABLISHING PSYCHOLOGICAL CONTACT DURING INTERROGATION

Abstract

In order to effectively conduct an interrogation as one of the important investigative (search) actions,
which allows obtaining the necessary information about the event of a criminal offense or checking the existing
one, the investigator, inquirer, prosecutor must establish psychological contact with the interrogated person. In the
context of the problem raised, the use of humor by the subjects of the investigation as a separate tactical technique for
establishing psychological contact with the interrogated person is described. Various methods of scientific knowledge
were used in the research process, namely: analytical – to analyze the concept of interrogation, psychological contact
and humor; logical allowed us to consider the use of humor before or during the interrogation; the modeling method
was used to form recommendations for the effective use of humor as a separate tactical technique before or during
the interrogation; with the help of sociological, scientific conclusions were confirmed by the results of an anonymous
survey of law enforcement officers. The scientific novelty consists in justifying the expediency of using humor by an
investigator, inquirer, or prosecutor to establish psychological contact with the interrogated person. In addition, it was
stated that the majority (90 %) of the surveyed law enforcement officers believe that the use of humor before or during
the interrogation will contribute to the establishment of effective communication between the subject conducting the
interrogation and the interrogated person, weakening the psychological barrier of the interrogated person, which in
the future will allow obtaining clear and truthful information, as well as establishing psychological contact between
the subjects of the interrogation. The proposed recommendations for the effective use of humor as a separate tactical
technique for establishing psychological contact with the interrogated person, depending on his temperament, can be
used by the subjects of the investigation in their professional activities.
