The purpose of the article is to systematize the theoretical foundations and expand the methodological base
of engineering and technical expert studies of electrical energy metering devices exposed to radio frequency
electromagnetic radiation when establishing the fact of interference in their work for the purpose of unaccounted
consumption of electrical energy. Methodology. To achieve the goal of the task, the reliability of the results and
conclusions obtained is ensured by the use of a complex of general scientific and special methods, including formal
logical ones, comparison and modeling. The results of the study are based on the generalization of information
about the objects of research in forensic examinations carried out at the National Scientific Center «Hon. Prof. M. S.
Bokarius FSI». Scientific novelty. In the context of electrotechnical research of electrical energy metering devices, the
mechanism of the effect of an electromagnetic field in the radio frequency range on the reliability of electrical energy
metering has been clarified and the theoretical foundations for the application of electromagnetic shielding have been
systematized. Conclusions. The regulatory requirements established for the stability of electric energy metering devices
from exposure to radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation have been systematized. The mechanism of the effect of
radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation and the constructional elements of metering devices sensitive to the action
of such radiation are determined. Theoretical substantiation of the use of electromagnetic shielding as an effective
technical means of preventing the effect of an electromagnetic field in the radio-frequency range for compliance with
the metering of electrical energy is given. The division of the design of electrical energy metering devices into groups
is carried out according to the signs of protection against the effects of radio frequency electromagnetic radiation.
